Hello and welcome, all new freshmen!

First of all, congratulations on your study place, and we’re delighted that you’ve chosen our beloved Pelletti! My name is Konsta, and I’ll be your Fresher Captain for the upcoming year. I’m currently a second-year Environmental Engineering student, and you’ll probably recognize me from my grey Fresher Captain helmet and grey overalls—which you’ll eventually get yourselves as well if you so wish to.

My role is to introduce you to the local traditions, Finnish student culture, and, of course, to make sure you feel safe, welcome, and at home here in Lappeenranta. You can always approach me with any questions, big or small, if something is on your mind, or simply if you’d like to have a chat. Both I and the entire Skinnarila community are excited to welcome you and make you a part of our amazing student community!

Our freshman weeks begin during the second last week of August and last for two weeks. However, we highly recommend arriving already during the preceding weekend (22.08.2026) to get familiar with the area and to participate in the Back 2 Uni event. Once the freshman weeks begin, your tutors and I will spend plenty of time with you through various activities and social events, helping you get to know each other while also introducing you to the university and the different student guilds.

During the second week, your studies will officially begin, and we’ll gladly help you learn how everything works—from course registration and university systems to balancing everyday life alongside your studies. When you arrive, make sure to bring your matriculation cap if you have one, swimwear, a variety of clothing suitable for both parties and more formal occasions, and most importantly, an open and positive mindset.

All of us tutors and older students are eagerly looking forward to the start of the freshman weeks and to meeting you for the very first time. See you at the end of August!

Best regards,
Konsta Kynäslahti,
Pelletti’s fresher captain
